WebPage Help

I have had alot of people ask me for help on their webpages so I decided to make a page here with some of the HTML help links on the web that I have found and some of my "kraftee" hints.   *smile*

The first thing you need to do is find a place to have your website.  There are numerous places on the net to get free webspaces as long as you don't advertise.  I had mine at GeoCities until I got my own domain last year.  Many ISP's give you a certain amount of free webspace for a website, thats where I would check first, it probably won't have those annoying popup windows or required advertising banners that the free sites require.

I used the Geocities easy editor to do a fast page and I then used the advanced editor to change things such as adding graphics, colors, fonts, music, Java scripts, etc., as I learned how to do so.  After a while, I used only notepad to make my webpages, I feel VERY strongly that you should learn the HTML codes BEFORE using an HTML editor.  Know what the commands are and how they are used.  If you don't, if something goes wrong with your webpage, you won't know how to find the mistake and fix it.

There are many excellent HTML help sites on the web that will help you from the very basic font commands to the "pain in the butt" table and frame codes.  IF you see something on a website that you like, and want to know how they did it, do a view source and check the coding.  I have "borrowed" MANY things off other people's sites.  If they have used a Java script, it will usually tell you the website to go and get more.

To do a view source, right click on the webpage, then left click in the menu that comes up on "view source".  This is how I first learned how to add graphics and backgrounds to my first webpage.  Alot of times when people ask me how to do something I know I have done on one of my pages, I simply give them the URL and tell them to do a view source   :)

One of the first things you should do is start a webpage folder in your c:\ drive.  To do this, go to my computer, click on c drive, then on make new folder and name it webpage (I named my "awebpage" because I got tired of scrolling clear over to the W's all the time...lol).  Then I got even smarter and made a short cut to my webpage folder and put it on my desktop *big grin*  In this folder, you can save graphics that you will want to use on your webpage.  Make sure you make a new folder for each graphics source, with a text file with the URl of the designer so you can give them proper credit on your website.
